Reforging
Reforging was a game system added in the 4.0.1 Cataclysm pre-patch. It allowed players to take a single secondary stat on each piece of gear and re-allot it to a different, more preferential stat. So for example, if a fire Mage got a new weapon that had way more Int on it than his old weapon but had no crit on it, he could reforge some of one of the other stats into crit. These changes were fairly small but were definitely noticeable across one's entire set of gear. Where reforging really shone though was getting the player to the hit/expertise cap. Using addons or external websites like MrRobot, a player could import their character and it would tell them exactly how to reforge their gear to get hit/expertise capped and then still pick up as much of their preferred secondary stat as possible. Because of this the only way to really use reforging on a DPS character was via one of these 3rd parties. It wasn't very fun to do and could be fairly expensive since there was a gold cost associated with it and every time you got a new piece of gear you'd often have to reforge you're entire set of gear again. Reforging was removed with the 6.0 WoD pre-patch when hit and expertise were removed from the game as well. Literally no one was sad about the loss of reforging and the hit/expertise cap.
