Staff of the Shadow Flame was a staff drop off of Nefarian in BWL. It was markedly better than it's peers (Shadow Wing Focus Staff, Staff of Domination) making it a hot ticket item for any offensive caster. Pretty much every Mage and Warlock was after it. They were not alone though. The staff also caught the eye of a certain Shaman, Scorpion. Everyone knew that Scorpion was a closet Elemental Shaman and only played Resto in raids because that was the only thing for Shaman to do in raids. Scorpion wanted the staff over a mace like Lok'amir il Romathis because when out solo'ing you could put Windfury on the staff and get HUGE crits and smash stuff. Attempts to bid on it was crushed by the officers and Scorpion was salty about it forever.
